Before any of us in this room were even born, AIM was actively fighting tyranny in all of its forms, across the world. Before that, even... AIM was a strip-mining operation under the control of the United Global Sovereign Republic. This very facility, in fact, is an old Wolframite mine. Of course, once its purpose was served, it was abandoned, left to rot... Just like everything else they exploit...
After the UGSR desanctioned this facility, there was still a fair amount of Wolframite to be found. enough for some prospecting young men and women to take the mine into their own hands... Our forefathers may not have ever been anything but poor miners, if not for what they discovered in the caverns below us. At a depth of around 1100 feet, they discovered a treasure-trove of relics, the likes of which they could have never dreamed of. Beautiful tapestries, flexible metals, and incredibly advanced artifacts... Alongside a great machine.
The machine seemed to display a consciousness of some sort. It communicated with the miners who discovered it; In fluent English, no less. It compelled them to band together, and stand against the UGSR.
And several years ago... The machine started compelling me to find five specific young people that it called 'Candidates For Rebirth'.
Geeze! Y'know, that's a lot of information to take in... I sorta wish I would've known about this earlier.
Well, you *should* have known about this earlier, Sol. Originally, I meant to send a squad of strike operatives briefed on your situation to your rescue... That proved to be rather difficult when They found their Hovercraft had been hijacked...
Hijacked, but- Wait a second... Kale!?
H-hey, c'mon! Look, just because I- I mean, the hovercraft really... I needed to go on this mission, okay? And that hovercraft was my only way of going. So yeah, I stole it. There, I said it.
Mmm. I understand that you stole it, Kale. But *why*, though. Why did you steal it?
Oh. Uhh... That's a good question. Y'know, it looks pretty dope, to be honest. Do I need any more of a reason than that?
Well knowing you, that COULD be the reason you did it. But here's my theory; Kale, you know better than anyone else that your charade is wearing thin around base. You claim to be some lonely desperado, unable to trust in others. And yet there you go, off to rescue a complete stranger for seemingly no reason.
Kale... You have a complex, I believe. In that little head of yours, you so strongly believe yourself to be inferior to everyone around you, that you have to disprove the notion every single moment of your waking life. I'd wager that this new 'daring' rescue attempt was some new ploy to prove to yourself just how worthy you are... Wasn't it?
Hey, can I say something about-
No. No, both of you shut THE FUCK UP!
